Johannesburg Metro Police have advised motorists to exercise caution after a bus collided with six other vehicles on the M1 highway near Booysens this morning. Several passengers in the bus were injured.
No fatalities have been reported.
The affected stretch of the road has been closed and motorists have been asked to use alternative routes.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla says law enforcement officers are on the scene.
“A serious accident has occurred on the M1 highway in Booysens involving a bus and six other vehicles near Booysens Road. Preliminary information suggests the bus was travelling south on the M1 towards the Boooysens Road off ramp when a passenger reportedly had an altercation with the driver and grabbed the steering wheel. The bus subsequently lost control, veered off the M1 south, crossed the barriers and the median and collided with vehicles on the M1 north. Law enforcement officials are on scene and the M1 north is currently closed to traffic.”
