Brigadier Mokoena advised not to return to Madlanga Commission

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria has been informed that the Hawks Tactical Operations Head, Brigadier Lesiba Mokoena, has been advised not to participate at this stage.

The commission had requested him to return to testify after the chief inspector of the Gauteng Traffic Police Air Wing, George Raftopoulos contradicted his testimony.

Last week, Brigadier Mokoena said he was not part of a WhatsApp group through which Hawks officers were mobilised to go to the home of murder accused, Katiso “KT” Molefe during his arrest in December last year.

However, during the testimony of Raftopoulos, the commission was shown evidence which proved otherwise.

“The indication from Brigadier Mokoena in our engagements with him over the weekend is that he would prefer not to return to the commission at this stage until he has considered legal advice and considered all the evidence that will be led in this matter. He’s not sure if at this stage he’s considered an implicated person with regard to evidence that was led last week. And my understanding from the DPCI’s legal advisor is that they’ve advised him not to participate at this stage unless the commission absolutely wants him to come,” says Evidence leader Advocate Lee Segeels-Ncube.
