Defence counsel Charles Mnisi has today pressed Senzo Meyiwa lead investigator, Brigadier Bongani Gininda, on why Kelly Khumalo was not charged alongside the accused at the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria for the murder of the soccer captain.

Singer and Meyiwa’s former girlfriend Kelly Khumalo has been identified by some as the mastermind behind the contract killing of the soccer captain.

Five men are on trial for the 2014 murder of Meyiwa who was shot at Khumalo’s home in Vosloorus, on Gauteng’s East Rand.

Brigadier Gininda responded to whether the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) had directed further investigation to connect Khumalo to the accused in court.

Mnisi: The DPP went through that memoranda in a case docket and decided to indict the five accused that are before court here, and gave you instructions to go get more evidence to connect Kelly to the five accused persons.

Gininda: My Lord, further instructions were given in as far as Kelly Khumalo?

Mnisi: Yes, some of which are ‘go find more evidence to connect Kelly Khumalo with these accused to the commission of the offense’.

Gininda: Yes, that could have been part of it, but it was basically to obtain evidence, my Lord, that would link her to the offence.
