Build One South Africa (BOSA) has called on government to scrap the 30% pass mark and replace it with a minimum 50% pass requirement.
On Monday, the party held demonstrations outside the matric results centre in Johannesburg ahead of the official results announcement.
BOSA says the current pass mark jeopardises students’ ability to access institutions of higher education, while this ultimately affecting their employability.

BOSA leader, Doctor Mmusi Maimane says this puts learners at a disadvantage in the future.
“If you are assessing learners at such a low level of 30% in certain subjects, you achieve these masked results that show we are increasing the number of people who are passing but in fact, the proof in the economic pudding is that you say to yourself; do they end up being employable, do they end up in spaces where they can be able to say they can compete with anyone else in the world.”
