Booysen, associate led plot to kill Wainsten: Mr X

The state witness known as Mr X in the case against alleged underworld crime boss Jerome Booysen has told the High Court in Cape Town, that the plan to kill steroids smuggler, Brian Wainstein was discussed at Booysen’s house.

The witness told the court that the execution plan was led by Booysen and his associate, Kamal Naidoo.

This emerged during a trial within a trial, on whether alleged phone conversation recordings are admissible as evidence.

Booysen and 11 others face charges including the Wainstein murder, in 2017.

Mr X testified that Booysen and Naidoo led the conspiracy to kill Wainstein with others enlisted to assist.

He admitted he ultimately wanted to take part in the murder, driven by anger rather than hatred.

The state witness told the court that after the death of Wainstein, Booysen took over the steriods business after Wainstein controlled the market.

Mr X said he later surrendered to the Hawks to distance himself from the steroid operation, insisting it was never in his character.
