Bontle Mashiyane murder trial set to begin on Monday

The trial against four people accused of the kidnapping and killing of six-year-old Bontle Mashiyane is expected to finally get underway next Monday.

The trial was recently postponed on several occasions after the prosecutor called in sick.

The suspects were arrested in 2022 after the young girl’s mutilated body was discovered in bushes following her reported disappearance.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Spokesperson Monica Nyuswa confirmed the state is now prepared to move forward.

“All parties indicated their readiness to proceed with the trial, and the state also has witnesses lined up to testify. The National Prosecuting Authority prioritizes Gender-based Violence cases, especially those targeting children,” says Nyuswa.
