Boesak describes Lekota as a leader defined by honesty, discipline

Tributes are continuing to pour in for struggle fighter and Congress of the People co-founder, Mosiuoa Lekota as a hearse is transports his body to the Old Grey Sports ground in Bloemfontein for the funeral
service.

Anti-apartheid activist and cleric Doctor Allan Boesak has described Lekota as a man whose true legacy lies in his honesty, discipline and humility.

“His legacy is not beginning and ending with COPE, his legacy is what this man has been. From the moment he decided that what Biko was saying was what this country needed, and he would be able to take that through and into the political formations that he joined. His life is that testimony. So for me, his worth as a person, his worth as a friend, is far beyond COPE. COPE can come and go, COPE can live and die. But Terror Lakota and what he meant and what he did for our people and what he stood for and the legacy he leaves behind will live in the minds of people forever”

Meanwhile,  Former presidents Thabo Mbeki and Kgalema Motlanthe are among the dignitaries that are expected to attend the funeral service. Deputy President Paul Mashatile will deliver the eulogy.

Lekota died earlier this month at a hospital in Johannesburg at the age of 77. Here’s our reporter in Bloemfontein, Abigail Visagie
