Body of missing 6-year-old girl found in Mbombela

A six-year-old who was reported missing in Mattafin, Mbombela in Mpumalanga, earlier this week has been found dead. The father of the child, who cannot be named for safety reasons, says he left the six-year-old and her four-year-old sister in their their shack for a short while.

The body of the six-year-old girl has been found in the bushes near the local cemetery.

The father who fled the area says they were hopeful that the child would be found alive.

“I went out to a local shop at around 08:40, at night. After 20 minutes I came back and found the lock chain down. My child was gone. Yesterday, I was informed that the child had been found dead. I left the area because the community was beating me and asking what had happened to the child,” says the father.

Provincial Police Spokesperson, Donald Mdhluli says they are investigating a case of murder.

“Our members worked very hard, but they couldn’t find the victim. Then they also involved our dog unit in searching for the child, until last night. For now, we are looking for the suspect. No one has been arrested,” says Mdhluli.

He urges members of the public who might have information that may assist in arresting the perpetrator or perpetrators of this heinous crime, to come forward.
