Body believed to be missing surfer found in Southbroom, KZN

The body of a man believed to be the 22-year-old surfer missing since last week has been recovered off Southbroom Main Beach in KwaZulu-Natal.

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Shelly Beach crew responded to the scene on Monday afternoon after a witness spotted the body in the surf zone.

“NSRI teams, SAPS divers, and K9 units had been conducting search operations since Thursday,” says NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon.

“The boy of an adult man was located and recovered by police divers assisted by the NSRI and recovered onboard the NSRI rescue craft brought to the NSRI Shelly beach station 20 rescue base onboard the NSRI rescue craft.”

The body was taken to the KwaZulu-Natal government morgue, where his family is expected to identify it.

An Inquest docket has been opened by the Police.
