Bodies of two drowning victims retrieved in KZN

The bodies of a teenager and a man—believed to have drowned in separate incidents—have been retrieved from different areas along the KwaZulu-Natal south coast.

The male teenager disappeared at Pennington Beach on Wednesday.

In the second incident, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) in Port Edward was on alert following reports of a body being sighted at the mouth of the Mazamba River.

NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon says formal identification of the second body by family is in progress.

“In two separate operations on Friday, November 22nd, at Pennington Beach, the SA Police Services, Canine Search and Rescue, and NSRI Rocky Bay attended at Pennington Beach, where the body of a teenager was located and recovered. The body of the teenager, identified by family, was taken into the care of Government Health Pathology Services (GHPS) and police.

Then at Mazamba River Mouth, NSRI Port Edward recovered a body suspected to be a man who went missing at Margate Pier on Saturday, the 16th of November. Formal identification by family is in progress,” says Lambinon.
