BMA suspends trucks from crossing the border into Mozambique

The Border Management Authority (BMA) has suspended the processing of trucks at the Lebombo Port of Entry.

Only small vehicles and people are cleared to cross the border into Mozambique.

The suspension was done prior to Mozambqiue’s Constitutional Council declaring the ruling party, Frelimo, the winner of the October election.

BMA Commissioner Mike Masiapato says, “Until we are given assurance that indeed even if the protest is to kick in, the corridor is protected by military as well as the police on the Mozambican side so that we can able to push the trucks, but for now we are not pushing any trucks. As it were, the threat in as far as these protests are concerned is just on cargo – that’s why we don’t think if we were to divert from Lebombo here into Mananga enter Eswatini, exit to Mozambique through Lomahasha, as it were we don’t think they would go and block the people.”
