Lebombo Border post
South Africa and Mozambique are discussing challenges experienced at the ports of entry in Komartipoort, Mpumalanga.
Border Management Authority (BMA) Commissioner, Dr Michael Masiapato says a lot has been done to improve the processing of cargo trucks at the Lebombo Border Post.
He was speaking at the three-day bilateral meeting where representatives of the BMA and their Mozambican counterparts are also discussing cross-border trade and security related issues.
Previously, cargo truck drivers spent days queuing, waiting to be processed at the border, exposing them to criminal activities.
The two countries signed a joint action plan last year aimed at strengthening policing efforts and combating trans-national organised crime.
“Very soon we are going to be announcing our private partner that is going to assist us in the redesigning of Lebombo, insuring it is opened up so that we are able to have dedicated lanes to use for the purposes of the movement of freight. The ultimate objective, as Director Theron will indicate here, is the achievement of a non-stop border post concept.”
