Angry residents of Bloemfontein in the Free State have looted goods from foreign-owned spaza shops.
This follows an incident in which 47 learners at the Ihobe Primary School were rushed to the Pelonomi hospital after allegedly consuming expired biscuits and chocolates believed to have been bought from some of the shops.
Residents have called on government to deploy health inspectors to wholesale and spaza shops in the area.
They say government should take charge and put safety measures in place in spaza shops and that they should not wait until the situation is worsened.
