Reigning World Sevens Champions, South Africa, will go into their home tournament in Cape Town next weekend with some momentum.
The Blitzboks won both their matches on day two of the opening tournament of the 2025/26 World Rugby Sevens Series in Dubai to finish fifth overall.
Coach Philip Snyman made wholesale changes to his playing personnel for the playoffs and it worked wonders.
The Blitzboks first beat Great Britain 34-nil and then Spain 21-12 in the fifth-place final, to salvage some pride from an otherwise disappointing trip to the United Emirates, where they’ve won a record 11 titles.
New Zealand and Australia are in the Cup final that will be played later this evening.
A strong finish in Dubai with valuable lessons learned means it’s not all doom and gloom for the #Blitzboks with Cape Town looming – more here: 🆙#PoweredByUnity pic.twitter.com/y4E9qHvZRd
