Bishop Dr John Bolana
The Eastern Cape Office of the Premier has announced that President Cyril Ramaphosa has granted the request for Bishop John Bolana of the Bantu Church of Christ in the Eastern Cape to be given a Special Provincial Category 2 funeral.
Bishop Bolana, the fifth bishop of the church, is being recognised for his contribution to society, his spiritual leadership, and his service to the people of the Cape.
He passed away last Tuesday after a short illness, aged 82.
African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula, together with members of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), have visited the home of the late Bishop John Bolana of the Bantu Church of Christ in the Eastern Cape.

Provincial government spokesperson Khuselwa Rantjie confirms that Bolana will be buried on Sunday the 15th of February.
“Premier Mabuyane has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the Bolana family, the church, and the broader community during this time of loss. The Eastern Cape Provincial Government calls on residents to honour Bishop Bolana’s legacy by upholding the values of humility, service, and social cohesion that defined his life and work. The National Flag will be flown at half-mast in the Eastern Cape Province on the day of his funeral.”
