Betway Premiership kicks-off with all 16 teams this weekend

All 16 Betway Premiership teams will be in action this weekend as the 2025/2026 season gets under way with six matches scheduled for tomorrow and two on Sunday.

Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns will be away to Chippa United in Gqeberha on Saturday afternoon.

Downs mentor Miguel Cardoso says their goal is to be better than last season and play every match at a high intensity.

Cardoso says, “We respect the competition very much, we can lose any match, I remember last year we won against pirates 4-1 and we lost immediately after maybe we were not on the level of awareness that we should be at.”

Newcomers, Orbit College will get their first taste of action in top flight football when they play AmaZulu in Durban on Saturday afternoon.

Polokwane City will welcome Magesi at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane in a Limpopo derby.

Richards Bay will host Marumo Gallants in Durban in another Betway Premiership Match on Saturday afternoon, while Orlando Pirates will welcome Sekhukhune United at the Orlando stadium in Soweto.

Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou says they want to continue with their winning ways after they beat Polokwane City last weekend in the MTN8 quarter-finals.

Ouaddou says, “We did well in our first match of the MTN 8, we’d like to keep this dynamic, we have seen a very packed stadium. We expecting as well the support of our fans hopefully they can come again and push the boys.”

Siwelele debut

Bloemfontein newcomer, Siwelele will make their Premiership debut by hosting Golden Arrows at the Dr Molemela Stadium tomorrow evening.

Their supporters are expected to come out in their numbers.

Winger Lyle Lakay says although Marumo Gallants have been playing their matches in Bloemfontein, the atmosphere will be different and more electric when Siwelele plays Arrows.

Lackay says, “I know how it feels to play in front of the supporters, people have been starved of football in Bloemfontein, Marumo has been playing but is not the same as Siwelele. We expect to see lots of Siwelele supporters on Saturday.”

TS Galaxy will host rookies, Durban City on Sunday afternoon in Nelspruit, while Kaizer Chiefs will be away to Stellenbosch FC in Cape Town.

Kaizer Chiefs Coach Nasreddine Nabi says this season will be better than the last one.

Nabi says, “I believe that we are in the right direction with what we started last season. The team is improving, we believe that this season is gonna be better than last season.”

The Chiefs match will kick off at 5:30 pm.
