The legal team of convicted murderer and rapist Thabo Bester has called on the High Court in Pretoria to grant their urgent application to have him moved back to a Gauteng prison.
Bester’s lawyers say they are having difficulty consulting with him ahead of his upcoming escape trial.
Bester is currently being held at the eBongweni Super Maximum Correctional facility in KwaZulu-Natal after being transferred from Kgosi Mampuru Prison in Pretoria.
His attorney, Moafrika wa Maila, says it is vital for Bester to be moved back to Gauteng urgently as he has just one month left to prepare for his trial.
“My lady, we are bringing this understanding that, time. It’s because we have not had much time to prepare. We are already struggling with preparation for the trial and now when they take him far, they will make us suffer more. So, therefore, we cannot wait any further and say, let’s give it a month, let’s give it another week, because it will be next month. So, we are expected to be ready and we are not ready at all,” says Maila.
