Convicted murderer and rapist Thabo Bester is expected to approach the High Court in Pretoria on Tuesday to make an urgent application challenging his transfer from Kgosi Mampuru Prison in the capital to the eBongweni Super Maximum prison in KwaZulu-Natal.
Last month, he lodged court papers on the basis that he is facing difficulties consulting with his legal team from Kokstad prison and that his transfer was unlawful and unconstitutional.
In his urgent application, Bester will be asking for an order that the Department of Correctional Services immediately transfer him to a facility in Gauteng.
Bester’s lawyers claim they were not informed of his transfer. They want him to be transferred to any prison in Gauteng for the duration of his current escape trial in Bloemfontein.
