Thabo Bester and his co-accused Dr Nandipha Magudumana appear in court
Convicted rapist Thabo Bester and his co-accused Dr Nandipha Magudumana will launch an urgent application in the High Court on Thursday to halt a Netflix documentary.
This is just a day before the launch of the three-part documentary series, ‘Beauty and the Bester’.
With the first parts of the widely anticipated series expected to air on Friday, both Bester and Magudumana want the launch stopped.
They argue that the documentary contains defamatory information.
Bester’s lawyer Courage Morero says they want the court to permanently stop Netflix from releasing, broadcasting, streaming, advertising or publishing the documentary without his consent.
“Given the overlapping nature of relief being sort being the interdict. It is obviously in the interest of judicial efficiency. That consistency of that application be aligned to avoid duplication of process. And as such we are not surprised that this court timetable has been adjusted to allow us for the matters to be heard concurrently. We would like to point out that our client remains resolute in protecting his rights. And deserves all remedies available for him in this regard. And we just like to note further that our relief being sort from the court, remains unchanged.”
