Bellarmine Mugabe, co-accused to back in court

Bellarmine Mugabe, son of former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, and his co-accused, Tobias Matonhodze, are back in the Alexandra Regional Court on Monday morning.

They are accused of shooting a 23-year-old gardener at the Mugabe residence in Hyde Park in February.

They face charges of attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, unlawful possession of a firearm, and contravening the Immigration Act.

The pair abandoned their bail application after the state argued they may be a flight risk due to their alleged illegal status.

Last week Tuesday, Mugabe’s attorney, Sinenhlanhla Mnguni mentioned that plea negotiation discussions are close to completion.
