The legal battle for the Balobedu throne in Limpopo is set to be heard at the High Court in Pretoria soon. The Modjadji Royal Council says the Presidency and the national Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs have communicated their intention to oppose the council’s application to challenge the president’s decision to recognize princess Masalanobo Modjadji as their to the throne.
The council wants the princess’ brother and former regent, Prince Lekukela Modjadji to ascend the throne.

Spokesperson of Modjadji Royal Family and Council, Ronnie Moroatshehla, says two weeks ago they got a letter from the presidency stating they are going to oppose our application.
“To date, our lawyers have received nothing from Masalanabo. They have received nothing from Motshekga. Two weeks back, we got a letter from the presidency stating they are going to oppose our application. So, let’s prepare for war. I don’t want to speculate, but our case is much better than the one in KZN because here we have an outsider (who) is fighting us,” says Moroatshehla.
