National Director of Public Prosecutions Shamila Batohi will be the first witness to testify before the Nkabinde inquiry, which starts in Pretoria on Tuesday.
The inquiry is looking into South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Andrew Chauke‘s fitness to hold office.
President Cyril Ramaphosa suspended him in July following allegations of misconduct and political interference in high-profile cases.
These include failure to pursue charges against former police crime intelligence boss Richard Mdluli.
Retired Justice Bess Nkabinde is leading the probe.
Chief evidence leader, Advocate David Mhlamonyane says, “The establishment of the present enquiry arises from the recommendations by the national director of public prosecution, the NDPP, Shamila Bathoi. Advocate Bathoi has submitted an affidavit and will be the first witness to testify in this enquiry, and she has outlined in her affidavit the circumstances which led to the recommendations to the president.”
