Basic Education urged to address alleged sale of matric results

1 minute

Education activist Hendrick Makaneta has called on Basic Education to clarify its position regarding the alleged sale of matric results by a private entity after a social media post alleging that matric exam results are being sold online for R100.00.
This is before the official release of the results starting tomorrow.

Makaneta says if these allegations are true, they must be resolved swiftly to reassure South Africans that the education system remains secure and free from unethical practices.

He has urged the department to conduct an internal investigation.

“The situation is a cause for great concern. If true, this suggests a potential breach of data security and a violation of learners’ rights to privacy. The sale of results, whether legitimate or not, undermines public confidence in the education system and casts doubt on the DBE’s ability to secure its systems. In light of these developments, we urge the DBE to conduct an internal investigation and call on the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to intervene to ensure transparency and accountability,” says Makaneta.

Numerous attempts by the SABC to obtain a comment from the Department of Education on the matter have been unsuccessful.
