Illegal gambling encompasses various unregulated activities, primarily online gambling and unauthorised casinos, posing significant challenges to law enforcement and the economy.
South African Responsible Gambling Foundation Executive Director Sibongile Simelane-Quntana says banning gambling is not the answer.
She says just as the banning of alcohol and cigarretes gave rise to the mushroom of the illegal trade, banning gambling altogether could have the same effect, calling for tighter regulations and the enforcement of those regulations.
