Bad weather hampers municipality from reaching pilgrims in Ndwedwe

The Ndwedwe Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal says heavy rains have damaged infrastructure including roads.

The municipality says this has made it difficult for them to provide the necessary assistance to affected residents.

They include thousands of congregants of the Nazareth Baptist Church who have been on an annual pilgrimage at the Enhlangakazi and Khenana mountains.

Municipal Mayor Samuel Mfeka says disaster management teams are on the ground assisting people.

“It is true that the weather condition is not good and our gravel roads were damaged and lower bridges were affected and it is difficult to cross. But our team from disaster management is on the ground helping the people. What is worrying us is that thousands of Nazareth Baptist church members are at Ndwendwe as we speak which worsens the situation but we are trying our best to help. I call on the people to avoid unnecessary trips until the situation returns to normal.”
