The alliance of business leaders, Business for South Africa (B4SA), has hailed the appointment of a special envoy to the US as a crucial step towards improving relations between South Africa and America.
Yesterday, the Presidency announced the appointment of Mcebisi Jonas as the special envoy to advance South Africa’s diplomatic, trade and bilateral priorities and lead negotiations with the United States.
B4SA CEO Martin Kingston has welcomed the appointment.
“There’s no doubt that we need the special envoy and the Presidency has demonstrated quite clearly its commitment to a reset of the relationship with United States. And I would argue that it is absolutely crucial at this moment in time when jobs is our primary focus as a country. And partnership between business and government underscores that critical issue and the United States is a key trading and investment partner and the broader influence that it has around the world.”
