B20 aims for long-term implementable business recommendations

The Business 20 (B20) says it wants to establish a pattern of implementable recommendations that extend beyond 2027.

The Business 20 serves as the official G20 dialogue forum with the global business community.

B20 Sherpa Cas Coovadia says this initiative is being developed in collaboration with counterparts in the United States, which will assume the G20 presidency in 2026.

As the US scales back its participation in South African meetings, business leaders will focus on limiting recommendations to those that can be tracked.

Speaking at the official launch of the B20 track meetings in Cape Town, Coovadia emphasized that while the forum does not focus on politics, it will continue to monitor developments that affect the business environment.

“If politics goes in a direction that makes it difficult to create an environment for businesses to do business, then we’re going to say something about it, and we’ve got to say something about it in the recommendations we make to the G20 governments. But we’ll see how that goes during the course of the year,” Coovadia said.
