Police constables graduate.
The MMC for Public Safety in the King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape, Mlawuli Marasha, says they are working around the clock to reduce crime in the area.
He was speaking during the welcoming ceremony of newly-appointed police constables in Mthatha.
Marasha believes the high crime levels in the KSD area have a negative impact on tourism especially during the festive season. He says they are working with others to fight the scourge of crime and to ensure the safety of communities as well as of tourists.
“During this festive season time, the tourists have cancelled reservations because of the criminality that is taking place around, in particular in KSD. They have decided to cancel because they are not safe. But as a municipality, of course in collaboration with SAPs, we are fighting that. As the municipality we are doing our best to reduce crime in KSD. We are working tirelessly with SAPs and also the relevant stakeholders,” says Marasha.
