The authorities in Limpopo suspect that a tyre burst is the cause of an accident in which five people were killed on the R71 near the JCI Mine in Phalaborwa.

The crash happened yesterday when the vehicle the deceased were travelling in overturned and caught fire.

The deceased who include the driver are yet to be identified.

Provincial Department of Transport Spokesperson, Tshifhiwa Dali says, “The report indicate that the driver of the sedan lost control apparently after a burst tyre and the vehicle caught fire, which resulted in the loss of five lives, preliminary report also indicate the mechanical breakdown might have been the cause of the accident. The department will wait for the real cause of the accident after investigations from the South African Police Service (SAPS).”
