Authorities remain on high alert on Limpopo roads

Transport authorities in Limpopo say traffic officers remain deployed on major routes to monitor traffic flow across the province.

This as travellers and holiday makers are making their way back to various destinations.

Chief Traffic Officer, Simon Kekana, says they are also expecting high traffic volumes towards the end of the weekend.

“Most of the tourists will be leaving the province as from today [Monday] and throughout the week and jointly with those that will be going to their work destination – but we can say that the R524 will be well monitored.”

“It connects all the way from Punda Maria road into the Thohoyandou traffic circle  – busiest intersection around that stretch of the road. N1 that comes all the way from Musina into Gauteng province [and] your R71 that connects into N1, and your R81 that feed into the CBD of Polokwane,” adds Kekana.

Furthermore, Kekana is also urging motorists to obey the road rules.

“We want to urge our motorists to switch on head lights because part of the province and the country is experiencing rainfall. The risk of exceeding the prescribed speed limit or over speeding is that there are potholes that are emerging over night and that will actually put more risk in terms of unnecessary accidents.”
