Arrest of Crime Intelligence head seen as blight on law enforcement

Interpol Crime Ambassador Andy Mashaile has described the arrest of the head of Crime Intelligence, Dumisani Khumalo, as a blight on law enforcement, particularly the Police Service.

Khumalo and his six co-accused were arrested on Thursday and are facing charges of fraud and corruption.

Five have been granted bail of R10 000 each by the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court.

A seventh accused in the matter, who has another pending case, was not granted bail.

Mashaile says it appears some officers think they are above the law.

“Having the investigative directorate against corruption pouncing in on these senior members is a very serious call of concern for the SAPS, particularly the space of crime intelligence.”
