Armand Swart murder helped investigators crack related cases

Witness A, who is testifying before the Madlanga Commission in Pretoria, has detailed how the murder of Vereeniging-based engineer Armand Swart helped their team to crack related cases.

Swart was shot 23 times in April last year after exposing corruption at Transnet.

Witness A is testifying remotely; however, the voice is audible. Witness A is one of three detectives whose testimony will be based on their investigation of criminal cartels.

“I will go on and say, as this murder occurred, it was also learned that there were other cases that were connected to it in such a way that the people that murdered Mr. Swart, in Vereeniging, were arrested in a different area, which is now Bramley, in Johannesburg. There was a docket that was registered there,” says witness A.

Witness A has detailed how police discovered cellphones and cartridges in a Mercedes Viano, in Bramley, Johannesburg, shortly after Swart was shot dead.

The witness has stated that the Viano belongs to veteran police officer, Michael Pule Tau. He was arrested alongside two other suspects, Musa Kekana and Floyd Tiego Mabusela.

Witness A’s evidence is being led by Advocate Lee Segeels-Ncube: “Now, in your statement, you referred to these 15 cartridges as the infamous 15 cartridges. Why do you call it that?”

“Yes, commissioners. These 15 cartridges were then later going to assist us to link this suspect to the murder scene in Vereeniging or to the firearms that would later be found in the house in the crime scene that is also in Bramley. This is the house that I didn’t give the address of,” adds witness A.
