The Home Affairs Department and the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) are set to collaborate in launching the Border Management and Immigration Anti-Corruption Forum in Pretoria today.

The aim of the initiative is to intensify efforts to combat corruption at points of entry.

ActionSA has been vocal about addressing illegal immigration in the country.

It has also accused government of failure to secure borders and uphold laws of the country.

ActionSA’ s Chief Whip in Parliament, Lerato Ngobeni says, “We think that it’s a step in the right direction. Any efforts that can be made for us as a nation to get a handle on what has happened with rampant corruption in the DHA that has resulted in the abuse of state resources, the abuse of power and as a result the negligence of what it really means to be a refugee in our country. Any effort to curb that and make sure that we can get the system right is very much welcomed. We will see what it is the launch is going to be about and what the terms of reference are going to be as soon as the forum is launched.”
