Scene of the fatal accident
Two inmates who were hospitalised after Thursday’s crash on the R101 between Mokopane and Mookgopong have died, bringing the death toll to nine.
This includes one police officer and eight inmates who have died.
The two more inmates who had been admitted to hospital following the collision between a police vehicle and a truck have sadly succumbed to their injuries on Friday.
The remaining injured inmates are still receiving medical treatment.
Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe once again conveyed condolences to all affected families, whilst wishing the injured inmates a speedy recovery.
The Commissioner has also reiterated SAPS’s commitment to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident that led to the fatalities.
The death toll from the tragic accident that occurred on Thursday, 14 August 2025, on the R101 road between Mokopane and Mookgopong in Limpopo, has risen to nine.
