The Animal Welfare Society says their teams have been assisting with evacuations and rescuing animals affected by the fire in the Tokai area. About 3000 hectares of vegetation have burnt in the Table Mountain National Park fire that started on Friday.
Hospital Manager and Head of Disasters for Animal Welfare Society, Jaque Le Roux, says a search continues for any injured animals in affected areas.
“We currently have a few animals in one of our wards for safekeeping. We are pleading with members of the public to please get on board with donations to keep our disaster team out there to search for animals in need.”

Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town’s fire and rescue services say the wildfire affecting the Tokai and Silvermine sections of Table Mountain National Park is not yet contained. Authorities say fire services have made big inroads in subduing the blaze.
Spokesperson for the city’s Fire and Rescue Service Jermaine Carelse says helicopters that were water bombing the flames have been grounded due to bad light.
He says an extensive area has been ravaged by the fire, but no property or lives are in danger. Carelse says the cooler evening weather and windless conditions have brought much-needed relief. Crews from several agencies will remain on the scene overnight to watch for hotspots and any flare-ups.
