John Mpe (Centre) was elected as ANC’s Peter Mokaba region Chairperson during elective conference in Polokwane, Limpopo on May 22, 2025.
The African National Congress’ (ANC) Peter Mokaba region in Limpopo has elected its top five leaders.
This is despite some delegates at the elective conference in Polokwane walking out, citing intimidation.
They are reported to be supporters of the slate of ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) Chairperson and Capricorn District Executive Mayor, Mamedupi Teffo.
Polokwane Municipal Mayor John Mpe’s slate was elected uncontested. Mpe will serve a third term as chairperson.
Some delegates, who walked out, have vowed to contest the legitimacy of the conference.
One of the delegates says, “We will report to the national office what has happened here, we can’t have the conference of the ANC where delegates can’t speak freely. We are threatened by police, we are threatened by bouncers from everywhere, even outside the country but we will raise our grievances with the leadership of the ANC at a national level. That thing is not a conference is a bogus conference.”
