ANC volunteers cry foul after being sidelined at Moruleng event

Some African National Congress (ANC) volunteers in Moruleng, in the North West, have expressed frustration after being sidelined from the party’s main anniversary celebration, despite working throughout the week in preparation for the event.

Volunteers say they were promised that they would be deployed on the main day of the event, only to be informed today that they will no longer be working there.

One of the volunteers, Lovely Motaung, alleges that individuals brought in from other provinces have been assigned duties instead, even though Moruleng is hosting the national gathering.

“We worked from Thursday and we were promised that we were going to work even today as the marshals. So, apparently there were listings that were placed, but our list is not there. Some of the kids are working, but we don’t know how they were selected. We are crying because even kids from other provinces are working here, but they are visitors. We, as the hosts, are not working. We were told to come here at 5h00 o’clock, so we don’t know whether the days we have been here working will be paid or not,” says Motaung.
