African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says that the country’s biggest party is unapologetic about the transformative legislation that it has passed.

Speaking following the ANC National Lekgotla, Mbalula says that the meeting urged that government ensure there be full implementation of the BELA Act to give all learners equal access to schooling.

He also stresses that there would be no retreat on the National Health Act or recently signed Expropriation legislation despite opposition by its partner in the Government of National Unity (GNU), the Democratic Alliance (DA).

“Essentially a revolution is about people’s interest which is what the ANC is about what are those people underdevelopment poverty and unemployment and for us to advance this people’s interest is for us to transform and transformation is about legislation transformation is about intervening strategically in many ways to ensure that we realise what should and is in the people’s interest.”

Meanwhile, the ANC says it is focused on creating an inclusive economy, growing jobs and industrialisation in sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, construction, mineral beneficiation and the green economy.

Mbalula says that there will also be a review of the country’s mass employment programmes.

“We have a range of public employment programmes for instance EPWP, CWP, youth service etc but these are disjointed and not making the full impact required given the unemployment crisis we face the Lekgotla therefore received a report on the review of all these programmes with a view to consolidate into an overall nationwide and multi-sectoral mass programme that has scale and impact.”
