ANC SG Fikile Mbalula in Mamelodi, Pretoria
African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says that the party will this week discuss the implications of the South African Communist Party (SACP) contesting the upcoming local government elections independently. The SACP has in the past campaigned under the ANC.
Mbalula says that the ANC will hold a special National Working Committee (NWC) and NEC meeting to discuss the matter.
He made the comments during his engagement with the media in Mamelodi, Pretoria, after the wreath-laying ceremony of anti-apartheid activist Solomon Mahlangu.

“For the first time, we are going to discuss the implication of the party decision and how that decision, in practical terms, is going to find expression in the African National Congress. The NWC has finalised a document by the officials on that. And then we’ll have an NWC meeting. We will have a special NEC meeting. We’ll have a special NWC meeting as well to finalise that discussion. And then thereafter, we will brief the allies about the position of the ANC.”

Meanwhile, Mbalula has also confirmed that he has received the ANC Veteran League’s (ANCVL) query on the appointment of EFF Gauteng Chairperson Nkululeko Dunga as Finance MEC in the province.
On Sunday, the ANCVL raised concerns on the appointment of Dunga as the Finance MEC in Gauteng, citing allegations of financial misconduct levelled against him while he was Finance MMC in the City of Ekurhuleni.
Mbalula says that the ANC will address the matter raised by the Veterans’ League at the party’s NWC meeting.
“We deal with challenges day in and day out in relation to either the implications of the decisions we take or somehow making it a point that we are able to do things like pass the budget. So, there are issues with regard to Gauteng that have been raised. Not only the Veterans League, Women’s League, Youth League and so on. So that is why when I was speaking, I was urging members to keep to the confines of the organisation because the centre holds. We do have the capacity to resolve issues. They must not act like they are in despair and they are not being listened to.”
Mbalula notes veterans’ concerns over MEC Dunga:
