ANC still negotiating national budget deal: Mbalula

African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says negotiations to reach a deal on the national budget are continuing.

Mbalula was speaking at the party’s four-day national executive committee meeting, which got underway today in Boksburg in Ekurhuleni.

He has not denied the existence of a letter from the Democratic Alliance (DA) to the President, with its conditions to support the looming budget vote.

Mbalula says they will not confine discussions on the budget to the 0.5 percent VAT hike but are open to reexamining spending.

The ANC is seeking the support of opposition parties to ensure the budget is passed. He says the NEC meeting will start with the political overview by the president and the move on to discuss the 2025 budget.

Mbalula says the party is on course to renew itself, adding that the party is committed to serving the people of South Africa diligently.

The party will also look at global issues, including the withdrawal of SANDF troops from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the strained relations between the US and SA.
