Parliament in session
The African National Congress (ANC) has said in a statement that it held a cordial meeting with the Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) recently as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen multiparty consensus and deepen democratic accountability in the Government of National Unity (GNU).
It says there was broad alignment on the importance of the recently adopted Fiscal Framework, particularly as a foundation to stabilise public finances, maintain essential public services and promote sustainable economic growth.
The parties also agreed on the need for vigilant Parliamentary oversight, efficient spending and decisive action against financial mismanagement.
The party says it reiterates its view that Government of National Unity (GNU) partners must be guided by mutual respect, common purpose, and disciplined cooperation in the national interest.
On Saturday, leaders of the ANC and the Democratic Alliance (DA) met in Sandton, Johannesburg.
The bone of contention is the ANC-proposed increase in Value-Added Tax, which is included in the 2025 Budget that Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana delivered in Parliament last month.
