ANC removes three councillors amid mayoral clash in NW municipality

The African National Congress (ANC) in the North West has removed three of its councillors at the Ramotshere Moiloa Local Municipality, including Itumeleng Moarabi, who is currently fighting over the mayoral position with Dinah Pitso.

Moarabi and Pitso both regard themselves as mayors of the municipality.

This comes amid tensions of ANC councillor factions at the Zeerust-based municipality, which led to yesterday’s shooting at the municipal building.

The party’s provincial secretary, Louis Diremelo, says vacancies have been declared and by-elections will be held at Ward 7 on the 15th of October.

“Finally, the ANC has taken drastic steps that they finally have to remove Mobara as a councillor. We removed Mobara as a councillor. We, therefore, removed the Chief Whip as a councillor. We have declared vacancies. We are going for by-elections in Ward 7 after we have removed the Chief Whip, called Berry White, there. We have also removed another councillor called Mosadi for conduct that’s unbecoming. We have removed them and we have subjected them to their ADC processes,” says Diremelo.
