ANC Deputy Secretary General, Nomvula Mokonyane.
The African National Congress’s (ANC) Subcommittee Chairperson on International Relations, Nomvula Mokonyane says that the party reaffirms their commitment for the liberation of Palestinians.
She spoke at a press briefing in Constitution Hill in Johannesburg during the launch of Week4Palestine, an initiative that brought activists, students and community leaders gathered to call for justice for Palestine.
Mokonyane also called for continued solidarity with the people from the Gaza Strip, as the Israeli–Palestinian conflict persists.
“We, proudly, as the African National Congress endorse Week4Palestine, joining over a hundred organizations in our country, South Africa and across the globe. To us, this is not a symbolic gesture, but again, another call to action. It can’t be a stop and start. It has to be a continuous action as we have also seen how many nations and peace loving people of the world continued to give us the necessary support,” says Mokonyane.
Meanwhile, Palestinian activist Bana Abu Zuluf says that Israel must be held accountable.
“We think that accountability will have to be achieved. So, we’ve seen examples of that previously. We’ve seen with Algeria with colonialism. We’ve also seen the case here today. We are in South Africa, and we’ve seen that you were able to conquer apartheid, but also internationally, you’ve gotten lots of support from people, communities who’ve stood up with you. So, we believe that people, the communities worldwide, the workers, will all unite and work to liberate Palestine, but also to end apartheid and hold Israel accountable,” she adds.
