ANC policies ‘immune’ from business influence: Dr Ramokgopa

African National Congress (ANC) Treasurer General Dr Gwen Ramokgopa says party policies are immune from business influence. She was speaking to the media on the sidelines of the ANC Annual Progressive Business Forum underway at Sun City outside Rustenburg. This is a build up to the party’s 114th anniversary celebrations planned for tomorrow at the Moruleng stadium.

Before the promulgation of the Party Funding Act, the ANC received over 70% of its funding from private businesses which some feared that it could make business to influence the policy trajectory of the ANC.

Dr Ramokgopa says they are now relying on funding from the government.

“You will be surprised that the highest amount of funding we received in the past year was from the government through the IEC. We have got different sources of funds, we have go government and we have got a colloquium this on a commercial basis this is like conferencing, and we have members also contributing we have levies, so we have a different stream of funding.”
