ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa
African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says their National General Council (NGC) will not be about the removal of President Cyril Ramaphosa, but strictly about the review of the implementation of its resolutions since its last conference.
He was speaking to the media on the sidelines of their one-day Special NEC meeting in Boksburg east of Johannesburg, earlier today.
The Secretary-General’s comments follow some reports that the NGC might be turned into a leadership contest, after some senior ANC members reportedly want to see Ramaphosa out.
Mbalula says they have closed ranks to protect their president.
[WATCH] There is no leadership struggle in the ANC. We closing ranks and we call on all ANC members to follow suit and close ranks. These are stories planted by forces from within and outside who are hellbent on disintegrating the ANC. These dark forces are working overtime.… pic.twitter.com/gnRvcWk4tX

The Special NEC meeting was called instead to discuss preparations for their 5th National General Council (NGC) planned for next Monday in Boksburg.
The mid-term gathering will be a review of the elected leadership, the implementation of the resolutions since the 2022 conference, the economy and the governance of the organisation, among others.
