African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula, together with members of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), have visited the home of the late Bishop John Bolana of the Bantu Church of Christ in the Eastern Cape.
Bishop Bolana passed away at the age of 82 in Gqeberha on Tuesday. He was the fifth bishop of the church and served for more than 24 years.
The ANC Women’s League, Youth League and veterans, also joined Mbalula to offer condolences to the family.
Mbalula shared how Bolana moulded the church and encouraged African nationalism.
“uTata played the role of African wisdom and ubuntu which was embedded, which he embodied in terms of the church. This is the people’s church. This church was born in 1914 and celebrated the 100th year in 2014 and we are here to celebrate with them. We have learnt a lot in terms of the church,” says Mbalula.
