ANC NEC meeting focusses on member vetting

Key organisational matters, including the vetting of members, are topping the agenda of the ANC’s four-day National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Boksburg, in eastern Johannesburg.

The meeting which started yesterday will also reflect on recent domestic developments, including Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana’s 2025 budget which he tabled in Parliament earlier this month.

ANC national spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri says the party’s performance in the 2024 elections is among the organisational matters that the meeting will discuss.

Meanwhile, ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula says negotiations to reach a deal on the national budget are continuing.

He has not denied the existence of a letter from the Democratic Alliance (DA) to the President, with its conditions to support the looming budget vote.

Mbalula says they will not confine discussions on the budget to the 0.5% VAT hike but are open to reexamining spending.

The ANC is seeking the support of opposition parties to ensure the budget is passed.
