Delegates attend plenary sessions at the ANC’s NGC in Boksburg.
The African National Congress’ (ANC) NEC member David Makhura says members must campaign for the ANC and not another organisation.
Makhura was responding during a media briefing at the party’s National General Council in Boksburg, East Rand, to the South African Communist Party’s (SACP) decision to contest next year’s Local Government Elections
Makhura says, “This National General Council (NGC) is deeply concerned about the SACP’s decision to contest the elections separately from the alliance and that was expressed very strong, and the NGC said basically that the NEC was correct to say that decision poses a threat to the unity of the alliance and it can cause huge fragmentation.”
He add, “The NGC said the NEC of the ANC must continue to engage the alliance as a whole and its ally the South African Communist Party, and take whatever decisions necessary to make sure that the ANC, especially in preparation for the elections. One thing you should know is ANC members must be in the campaign of the ANC, the can’t be in the campaign of another organisation.”
CORRUPTION
Meanwhile, the ANC has conceded that widespread corruption has resulted in it performing badly in the 2024 elections.
It says it says it will continue its efforts to improve the living conditions of South Africans.
The ANC has also vowed to change some of its constitution in a bid to fully renew itself.
The party’s NEC member Andries Nel says a raft of legislations will be up for amendment in their next National Conference in 2027.
He elaborates on a number of policy proposals and change that some of the delegates want.
