The African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo has issued a stern warning to South Africans to desist from setting up fake social media accounts aimed at tarnishing the image of ANC and government leaders.
Social media accounts under the name of the Mogalakwena Local Municipality Manager, Morris Maluleka, state that he made corrupt transactions of millions of rands to companies linked to Limpopo Premier Phophi Ramathuba and Cooperative Governance MEC Basikopo Makamu.
Ramathuba has dismissed allegations of irregular payments and nepotism at Mogalakwena Local Municipality.
According to the post, Ramathuba and Makamu supposedly directed Maluleka to process suspicious transactions and hire relatives of the two politicians.
The account has since been deactivated.
ANC Limpopo Spokesperson Jimmy Machaka says they dismiss the allegations with contempt that it deserves.
Machaka says they are doing so because the allegations were made by an anonymous source. “Someone decided to create a false account under the disguise of the municipal manager of the Mogalakwena Municipality.”
The municipality has distanced itself from the account because it is anonymous.
“In the event it is found that these allegations carry water, we would advise that whoever broke the story to approach law enforcement agencies in order to lay a complaint against either the premier or the MEC Makamu,” states Machaka.
