Inside the chambers of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature.
The African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo says it will request party members in the National Assembly to initiate a process of reviewing a section of the Municipal Structures Act.
The Act deals with the proportional representative seat allocation.
The party is dissatisfied that despite getting 43% of voter support and 10 ward seats in Thabazimbi, it was not allocated any PR seat.
Wednesday’s municipal ward by-elections produced another hung council.
The ANC needs two seats to govern the municipality.
The party’s provincial secretary Reuben Madadzhe says the matter of excessive must be resolved through the parliamentary process.
“It is very clear, it says the African National Congress has what they call excessive seats. So, the seats that were allocated for PR to us by the IEC were nine seats. We got 10 ward seats. We think we need to leave the IEC alone and challenge this subsection through the parliamentary process. We accept the explanation. We accept the PR results. Unfortunately, we are not happy.”
